If I get a Zinwell ZAT-970A Digital to Analog TV Converter Box and a basic antenna, should I get a DVR?
I currently have cable with a DVR for $80 a month, and I'm tired of paying it! I love the DVR though.
Do all DVR's have subscription fees? Could I use one with a basic converter and antenna (my TV is an old CRT, and if I replace it, it will be with another cheap Craig's list CRT).
Don't Tivo's have $20 a month subscription fees?
I have the Zinwell 970 which has a built in VCR event timer.
I use it with a Sony VCR to record one show every day.
That would be the cheapest option you have.
Recording anything over the air requires a very strong tv signal.
How far are you from the tower? I am within ten miles and get
a 90 out of 100 signal strength. The only thing I don't like about
the Zinwell is it has a low recording sound level.
You can look at the Channel master 7000 at
saveandreplay.com $399 or the more expensive
moxi.com $599. Both have built in tuners.
I also use a Panasonic DVD recorder which sold
for $200 on sale at Best Buy but is no longer available.
But I can't say enough about that strong signal no
matter what you use. Better stick to the cable if you don't.
