which tv should i buy 42' JVC 720p LCD Flat planel HDTV or 42" Hitachi plasma HD?
there are two TVs i am look at the Hitachi 42" 1080i Plasma HDTV Widescreen with 3 HDMI™ SimplayHD™ Inputs
Model No: P42H401 or the JVC 42" 720p LCD HDTV Widescreen with USB Photo Viewer and Dual HDMI Inputs

both have 1080i compabality so dont judge on that
Good question. A lot depends on how you will use it. If it's in a room with several light sources (windows, lamps, ceiling lights, etc.) then LCD will be best. It has much less glare and the newer LCDs' have high contract ratios to overcome the lighting.
If the setting is dark, like in a home entertainment room where you can shut out most of the lighting, then the plasma might be your choice. Plasmas tend to have better black levels, though LCD has nearly caught up. The plasma should be less expensive - though Hitachi tends to cost more than JVC as a brand.
In general, LCD's are thought of as the highest quality and best picture. And sets with 1080p output are almost the norm now (above 40"). But if you can get a 720p/1080i set for a good deal, it might be worth it. I went with a 46" Sony Bravia set from Costco and love it! It's in a family room setting, so is usually watched with lights on.
